PANDA NEWS:

We had a fabulous time at The Music Hall seeing the Piggie and Elephant show.  The children were excited to recognize that we have read many of the books by Mo Willems.

Also, we had an author and an illustrator visit the school to talk about their ideas and creative thought process behind the books.  It was very interesting to hear them talk about the craft of writing and drawing.

We will be adding to our homework.  We will begin practicing our math facts through 5.  A letter and the materials will be sent home on Monday.  Be on the look out!

Language Arts:

We are working on  procedural writing "How To's".  They are  reading some "How To's" and writing them as well.   We have learned the different  characteristics of a "How To".  They usually contain photographs, they might have some words in bold, and they may have a glossary.  They are using the characteristics in their books.  We are also working on sight words and blending CVC words to make our reading more fluent.

Math:

The Pandas have been learning the difference between 2D and 3D shapes.  We have been focusing on the cube and cone.  We have also explored measuring.  We continue to practice the sums through 5.  Each week your student will bring home a set of math facts.  Please practice all the math facts with your student.

Art:

The Pandas have been making kites. We used various art supplies to collage the kites.  We are using them for inspiration for a book.
