PANDA NEWS:

Happy Valentine's Day!  
The students celebrated 100th day and Valentine's day this week.  We celebrated in a lot of different ways.  The students were able to built with 100 Solo cups, write a book (My Teacher Has Told Me 100 Times...), we played with valentine's slime and a whole lot more fun!



After vacation, we will be adding to our math homework.  We will begin practicing our math facts through 5.  A letter and the materials will be sent home after vacation.  Be on the look out!

Language Arts:  

 

We worked on proper formation of all letters introduced.  I am still find a lot of children starting from the bottom.  We also continued to work on our reading strategies.  We have learned good reader use a lot of different tools when they read. 

 

Math:

 

The Pandas celebrated the 100th day of school.  We shared our collections of 100 and counted to 100.  It was an exciting day in the Panda room.

 

Art:  

 

We made valentine's crafts with paint and glitter.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Social Studies:

PANDA NEWS:

 

I hope we are all enjoying the snow.  It has been a crazy mixed up week. The hundredth day of school will now be on Tuesday (fingers crossed).   If you have not already, please sign and return the envelope and the copy of the report is yours to keep.  Also if you have not sent your child's valentines in please do so ASAP.  We have a post office set up in dramatic play where they are able to mail the valentines.

 

 

Language Arts:  

 

We continued to work on lowercase d and g.  We also continued to work on the word like. We have been practicing our reading; we have a lot of great readers!  They are also great writers.  We have been practicing our sight words in isolation and in the context of reading.  You may want to practice finding them in books with your children.

 

Math:

 

The Pandas continued to review math games to build number sense.

 

Art:  

 

We made painted hearts today and torn paper hearts on Wednesday.  Can you feel the love!

 

Social Studies:

 

The students will be learning about the US Postal System during the month of February.

PANDA NEWS:

 

Welcome back!  I apologize for the delay in blogging.   I hope you had a restful and fun vacation.  We are getting back into the routines of the classroom.  The students have begun working with sound sorts each week.  You will see these sorts come home weekly.  The students can practice these at home if they wish.  They do not need to be returned. 

Language Arts:  

We worked on lowercase c, o, s, v, w, t & a during the last few weeks.  We also worked on the word it, to & can. They practiced the word in several different ways as well as reviewed other sight words.  We also have begun to blend sounds together to decode simple cvc words.  We have been working on mid-year assessments.  This information will be used to complete progress reports, which will sent home at the end of January.

Math:

The Pandas wrote the numbers 1-20 for a math assessment.  We played a sequencing teen number game.  We also worked with the concept of addition and subtraction.  They also worked on number puzzles by finding patterns on the hundreds grid.  We continued to practice counting to 70 and are working on recognizing our teen numbers.

 

Art:  

We made melted snowmen and a stained glass mitten.    We also created glitter snowman.

 

Social Studies: 

We talked about Martin Luther King Jr. and what made him important.  The children took part an activity about inclusion and exclusion.  They also made peace doves and came up with their own dream for a better world.

 

 

Science:

Did you notice a snow theme this week?  We will end our week by making snow inside.  It was just like real snow.  Kids loved playing with it!

Panda News:

We continued to work on our gingerbread theme.  Next week we focused on Jan Brett's The Gingerbread Baby.

Language Arts:  

We worked on uppercase I, T, & J.  We also worked on the word the. We worked on our class version of the gingerbread story.  The children are having so much fun being authors. 

Math:

We continued to work on practicing teen numbers.  We played a variety of games using dice and ten frames.  We also worked on representing hexagons different ways and recording the information we found. 

Art:  

The students created collage gingerbread kids.  We also worked on placemats for our cookie decorating.

Social Studies:  

The STA is running community service project to collect food for the needs of people in our community.  They can bring in a canned good to add to the deposit boxes.  Also don't forget about the other service projects going on throughout the school.

We have begun work on our gingerbread unit.  We have read a few versions of the folktale The Gingerbread Man.

We worked on attributes and shape.  We have been practicing counting to fifty by ones.

The students worked on a winter quilt this week.  They decorated their painted gingerbread men.

Panda News:

Thank you to all the volunteers this month.  I will be getting December's calendar out next week. 

As you know our Family Breakfast is next Tuesday.  It will start at 8:00.  We will finish with reciting a poem at 8:25.  I hope all will be able to join us. 

Language Arts:  

We have been working on the word and. They have been comparing and contrasting themselves to the Pilgrims through realistic fiction.  We also wrote our own version of  I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Pie.  

 

Math:

We will work on turkey dice games as well as make a turkey glyph.  The Pandas are creating turkeys with the pattern block templates. The kids can't wait for you to check out their work at the breakfast next Tuesday

Art:  

The classroom is looking very festive with all the Thanksgiving art work we have been creating!

Panda News

Our Halloween celebration was a success. The children had a wonderful time. Check out the new photos I added to Flickr.  Thank you for all the donations and help.  I couldn't do it without you!

Here is a glimpse of our week in the Panda class:

Language arts:  The children wrote a piggy back version of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? using their costume photos.

Math:  We played various Halloween math games.  The students have made great progress this quarter!

Art:  We made Sparky the Fire Dog to go along with our visit from the Stratham Fire Department.  

Social Studies:  We ended Safety Month with bus safety and a visit from the Stratham Fire Department. The children were able to explore the truck, learn about 911, practice stop, drop, and roll and get to see a fire fighter all dressed for work.  They talked to the students about having a safety plan at home.  You may want to create one or practice it if you already have one.
